Best of 2004

Guess what! The Hazzards are listed as Best Comedy Musical Act by Time Out New York.

"While some comics wield instruments as crutches, The Hazzards, Kimmy Gatewood and Rob Paravonian know how to transcend the good ol' joke instead."

We rule! Thanks, Time Out New York

Merry Christmas!

It's Christmas Eve and I'm filled with holiday spirit, 2 ham sandwiches, and 3 eclairs. Just thought I'd share my warm holiday feelings with my internet friends.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

Girl Beer is bad for you?

No way!

I heard all over the news this weekend that people are really upset about how delicious flavored malt beverages are and how teenage girls love delicious candy flavored beer. According to those people, Smirnoff Twisted Apple (a favorite of The Hazzards) is a gateway drug! Your friend gets you to try a Smirnoff Ice, and the next thing you know you're drinking Smirnoff Vodka--'cause the bottles look exactly the same. And you know how bad vodka is!

The American Medical Association calls Girl Beer "Alcopops," which is way less cute than what The Isotoners call it ("Bitch Pops"). According to the AMA, "Teen girls report drinking alcopops more than other alcoholic drinks, whereas women age 21 or older rank the drinks as their least-consumed alcoholic beverage." I'll have you know that I am a woman over age 21 who ranks girl beer as one of my most consumed alcoholic beverages. And, BTW, flavored malt beverages taste NOTHING like vodka, and there's no way drinking one will convince me to drink the other. On the other hand, I do enjoy whiskey.

I guess this blows our chances of convincing anyone to use our song "Girl Beer" for their ad since our song clearly encourages teenagers to drink. Oh well.

Love,
Sydney

PS - I am VERY SERIOUS about my girl beer.

PPS - You can hear our song Girl Beer on our new EP So Pretty, or listen to it at myspace.

WYSIWYG Talent Show!

Dear Blog,
Last night was wicked fun....even though I was cranky and tired and the sugar-free red bull I had didn't do the trick at all. We were at PS122 for our second WYSIWYG Talent Show. Good times! Great acts! And somehow we made GIRL BEER, SWEET CHILD OF MINE, FAITH, and HOTT FOR HASSIDEM fit into the "Happy Goddamn Holidays" theme. Oh! look here: Photos!

It was so great to finally see Phoebe Kreutz perform! She's an old friend of an old friend and dudes, she was so funny!! We hope that Dan Fishback will be our new friend too. Sydney said she'd probably be just like Dan if she was a boy. I think she's kind of right (glasses, smarty pants, loves rainbows...)

Everyone was great, too bad we couldn't hang out after the show. It's been a busy 3 days for the Hazzards: Subway Hobo-ing on Sunday (We made $75 in two hours!), CD release party on Monday, then last night's show. Poor Andrew's bass playing fingers are in rough shape!

Thanks again to Chris Hampton for inviting us to WYSIWYG! I've said it before and I'll say it again, she really does an awesome job curating the events. yeah!

Did I mention that our CD is officially now available? Thanks to everyone who pre-ordered, you should get your copy very soon!! If you haven't picked up a copy yet, order one today at www.ukesofhazzard.com/sopretty.html! Look for the secret giggle track!!

lots of love,
Anne

ps: enjoy this delicious recipe- cracker cheese cracker cheese cracker cheese cracker cheese. it's WICKED good.

Dear Diary: Our family is SO weird!!

Dear Diary,

It's family Christmas party day which means that we will be staying in our room for as long as possible. We really don't feel like peeling potatoes or talking to our cousin Lisa about how great church is- Our family is so weird! Uncle Mike and Aunt Linda just got here, we can tell because the dogs are barking and the house is starting to smell like Old. Remember last year when they asked us if we started having "healthy cycles" yet? Ew, so sick.

We wonder how long we can make mixtapes for before we're forced to go downstairs. At least we have some cool parties coming up to look forward too. There's a rad one this Wednesday night at Galapagos and an awesome one on Monday at Sin-e! We hope there will be making out at both of them. Making out is so much cooler than stupid weirdo yankee swap. BTW, We think Uncle Mark puts the same pair of socks in every year.

Ok, first song on the mix for Ed will beeeeee..... Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin. We slow danced to that together once.

later!

** In the afternoon hours of Sunday the 12th, the Hobo alert level will allegedly go all the way up to Hazzardous "Kerchief on a Stick Red" at the Bedford stop on the L train. FYI: Hobos really like quarters but they are IN LOVE with sacajaweas. Keep your eyes peeled and your change throwing hand ready.
